New PSP modeled number 3000 - PSP-3000 is rumored to be in mass production. Rumor has it that the PSP 3000 is mostly cosmetic revisions - with the ‘Home’ button changed to the PlayStation logo and the metallic ring on the UMD door appears to be slimmed down. One major hardware change would be in the form of a mic, which is located just to the right of the volume up button. This definitely adds fuel to the rumors of support for cellphone.
There’s nothing here that would entice me to purchase the new PSP 3000. Now if Sony adds a SSD, then yeah, we might be in business.
Images purported to be the PSP 3000 have surfaced that suggest similar changes. This time, instead of just the empty shell, we see what appears to be a working prototype of the new PSP 3000. You can see the smaller ring on the backside, mic and what appears to be a new PlayStation button where the home button used to be.
The significant change to PSP 3000 is that the PlayStation button is round this time, making it very close to looking like the button from your PS3. I still think it’s a bit soon for Sony to be launching a new SKU, but who knows.
